How to Stagger Vinyl Plank Flooring

A professional installer’s creativity is installing a strong floor that is beautified with the creative vinyl planking. It requires essential household tools, vinyl plank are cut with a sharp utility knife, and with adhesive strips, it is secured together. Vinyl plank flooring can be installed easily by homeowners during the weekends. As long as there is a staggered joint, it will have a smooth appearance. Staggered joints remove seam joints and put a uniform look on the floor to give it fluidity. If you do not know how to stagger vinyl plank floor, here are the simple methods to follow:

  1. Snip off the best 1-inch over-edge cement take from the principal plank. Cut off the 1-inch over-edge cement strip on the right side of the plank, too. Cutting off these light strips keeps the plank from inclining toward the divider and gives the floor a smooth, even surface.
  1. Lay the full primary plank on the floor, starting on the right-hand side corner of the stay with the noticeable glue tongue looking out toward the room. Alter the plank to permit a 1/8-inch hole at the top and right half of the plank. Lay at any rate one all the more full-width plank to this first column.
  1. Place your measuring tape on the right side of another plank. Measure 66% of this plank and imprint a little vertical line with your pencil. Most vinyl planks are 36 inches in length, so measure 24, creeps down the plank, and engrave the estimation with your pencil.
  1. Place the speed square or T-square with the goal that the head of the device lays plumb on the head of the plank, and the edge of the apparatus lays on your pencil line. Press the instrument immovably on the plank so the device won’t move. Daintily score a line with the utility blade from your pencil write down the plank’s width, utilizing the speed or T-square as a rule for a straight cut. Delicately score the line a couple of times. Get the plank and gradually break the plank separated at the scoreline.
  1. Lay this 66% plank on the floor as the central plank in the subsequent column. Permit a 1/8-inch extension on its right side and secure the plank to the planks’ mainline by squeezing the glue strips together. Lay in any event one all the more full-width plank in this subsequent line.
  1. Place your measuring tape on the right side of another plank. Measure 33% of this plank and imprint a little vertical line with your pencil. If your vinyl plank is 36 inches in length, measure and imprint this plank to 12 inches. Break and introduce the plank as the central plank in the third line. Make sure to permit a 1/8-inch hole by the divider.
  1. Lay extra full-width planks to your first and second columns. Keep estimating and cutting planks in thirds and keep introducing the planks in staggered lines.

Equipment you will need

  • Measuring tape
  • Utility knife
  • Carpet shears or snips
  • Speed square or T-square

Things to keep in mind

Change the utility blade edges frequently. A dull edge causes barbed edges on the vinyl planks.

Permit a hole of roughly 1/8 inch around the edge of the room. This hole takes into consideration the extension and withdrawal of the planks with temperature changes and forestalls clasping.

Spare the shorter cuts of planking between the sheets of pressing paper in the vinyl planking boxes. Use these planks for the opposite side of the room when you need shorter pieces as you close to the divider.

Lay the planks on the bundling paper when estimating and cutting. The bundling paper ensures the glue strips and keeps the strips from gathering residue and earth as you work.

Take Note:

Store your plank in the room where they will be installed for two days before installation. The planks need time to change under the moistness and room temperature. The inability to adapt the planks to the climate may distort or buckle the planks after establishment.

Vinyl planks produce a soft substance scent for a couple of hours or days after being installed, called “off-gassing.” To reduce the smell of vinyl soft substances, open windows to allow ventilation to come into the store.
